Biography

Min Lin is a machine learning researcher and technology leader serving as Head of AMI Singapore. She completed her undergraduate studies in Biology at Peking University, one of China's most prestigious research universities, before transitioning to computational and machine learning research.

She subsequently earned her Doctor of Philosophy from the National University of Singapore (NUS), where she developed foundational expertise in deep learning and neural network architectures. Following her doctorate, she undertook postdoctoral research at Mila, the Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute in Montreal, an institution widely regarded as one of the world's leading centers for deep learning research.

Min Lin is perhaps best known in the machine learning community as the lead author of the influential 2013 paper “Network In Network”, which introduced key architectural innovations to convolutional neural networks, including the use of multilayer perceptrons within network modules and the global average pooling technique. The global average pooling approach, in particular, proved highly consequential, as it was subsequently adopted in several landmark deep learning architectures and became a standard component in the field. Her research contributions established her as a significant figure in the development of modern neural network design principles.

Prior to joining AMI Labs, Min Lin served as a Principal Research Scientist at Sea Limited, the Singapore-based technology conglomerate, where she contributed to applied and fundamental machine learning research within one of Southeast Asia's most prominent technology organizations. Her tenure at Sea positioned her at the intersection of rigorous research and large-scale industrial application, building expertise directly relevant to the development and deployment of advanced AI systems.
