Saining Xie is an artificial intelligence researcher and entrepreneur whose work has significantly advanced the fields of computer vision and deep learning.
He earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego, where he developed an early foundation in visual recognition and neural network architectures. His doctoral training laid the groundwork for a research career centered on understanding how machines perceive and represent visual information, a discipline that would come to define his subsequent contributions to the field.
Following his graduate studies, Xie held research positions at two of the world's foremost industrial AI laboratories. At Meta AI's Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) division, he contributed to influential work in visual representation learning, including research on self-supervised learning and scalable vision architectures that have shaped modern approaches to image understanding. He subsequently joined Google DeepMind, further broadening his experience across leading institutions at the frontier of AI research.
In parallel with his industry roles, Xie served as an Assistant Professor at New York University's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, one of the world's premier mathematics and computer science research centers, where he engaged with the academic community and mentored the next generation of AI researchers.
