Yuexiang Zhai is a Member of Technical Staff at AMI, where he contributes to developing advanced machine intelligence. His research background spans artificial intelligence, reinforcement learning, and optimization, with a particular focus on systems that can reason, interact with computers, and operate effectively in complex environments.

Before joining AMI, Yuexiang was a Member of Technical Staff at xAI, where he worked on reasoning and computer-use agents. He previously served as a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind, contributing to the scaling of the Gemini agent, and spent more than six years as a Research Assistant at Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research. His experience also includes research roles at Cruise, where he studied the limitations of large multimodal models, and ByteDance AI Lab.

Yuexiang earned his PhD in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley. He also holds a master’s degree in computer science from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Zhejiang University. This combination of mathematical training and research experience across leading AI laboratories provides a strong foundation for his work on intelligent agents, multimodal systems, and scalable machine intelligence.
